Checking Gun Resistance After Tip Dressing
A welding control that has RAFT will be suitable for verifying that the tip dressing operation is properly done. After each tip dressing operation, the robot will close the weld gun and initiate a special schedule from the weld control that is setup to read the resistance of the weld gun. In this example to the right, there is a significant difference between caps that have been dressed and those that have not. The resistance of the gun measures approximately 54 micro ohms when the electrodes are newly dressed. The resistance of the gun measures approximately 68 micro ohms when the electrodes surface remain contaminated without proper tip dressing. This method of verifying that the electrodes have been dressed is more precise than any other method available.
